Talks and tutorial about the Herwig7 event generator
Organisation
- First day of tutorial will focus on a general usage of Herwig7 and recent developments of interest for everyone.
- Second day of tutorial will focus on a CMS specific use of Herwig7.
Requirements
- For the participation in the Herwig7 tutorials a Herwig7 (version 7.0.2 or newer) accessible via your own laptop is required.
- Please make sure that you have Herwig7 available beforehand, since only little time can be dedicated to help with the setup of Herwig7.
Non-CMS participants:
There a two rather easy ways to setup Herwig7 on your own laptop. You can either
- Install Herwig7 via the official bootstrap script, available here: https://herwig.hepforge.org/tutorials/installation/bootstrap.html
- Install a Virtual machine containing Herwig7, available here: http://www.slac.stanford.edu/~shoeche/mcnet16/vm/
CMS participants:
Herwig7 is available in a prerelease version of CMSSW_8_1_X. Install / use it via
scram project CMSSW_8_1_0_pre12 (needed only once)cd CMSSW_8_1_0_pre12/srccmsenvsource /cvmfs/cms.cern.ch/slc6_amd64_gcc530/external/herwigpp/7.0.2/etc/profile.d/init.sh
Unfortunately, the Herwig7 package in CMSSW_8_1_X is not working properly, but there is an easy alternative to setup Herwig7 for the use in the tutorial.
Just follow the short steps in the following repository:
