Abstract: After a general introduction on the degradation mechanisms in polymers, this seminar will focus on specific physical properties that are suitable for early warning signals of aging in cable insulation: dielectric loss, diffusion of gas and liquids and thermo-physical properties using thermal wave methods. It will be shown how thermal wave methods can be used to monitor the aging of High Voltage-cables.
