Release Timelines
- 2.3.3 bugfix release: a few days away
- Rather large for a bugfix release; testing time should nevertheless be 3 days to stick to our own rules
- CVM-1040 (documentation) yet to be closed
- Requires a "cvmfs_server migrate" run, manual migrate instructions will be posted
- 2.4 feature release 4-6 weeks away with
- /.cvmfs/snapshots/... directory
- Cache plugins and tiered cache
- Minimal distributed backend
Chirp Cache Plugin
- Tim created a cache plugin that connects to a Chirp server
- Aims to investigate use of burst buffers
- Interested in the tiered cache with Chirp being lower level (see CVM-1053 for configuration)
- Cache plugins should be buildable only with the libcvmfs_cache.{a,h}. There shouldn't be a need to use the cvmfs build system.
NB: there is a success story from IceCube using parrot+cvmfs.
NB: Someone from NERSC is willing to join our next meeting to explain how their burst buffers are used
WLCG Stratum 1 Guidelines
- Should be seen as guidelines, starting point for discussion. Idea: write-down high-level view of the service LHC experiments get from stratum 1s.
- Unique service: a few tier ones provide a shared service for the grid
- Unaffordable at Amazon
- Brian noted to avoid having too detailed specs because it can prevent change.
- Dan noted that cvmfs server should handle software updates more gracefully, i.e. with less manual interventions
