Description
Abstract:The MgB2 superconductors can be produced by an innovative densification route: the Reactive Liquid Infiltration, established in 2001. Accordingly, the resulting superconducting bulk material is very dense and optimizes both mechanical and superconducting properties. In the development of the Infiltration technology many features of the process has been clarified and the superconducting properties have been optimized by doping and by tailoring the materials morphology. Among the beneficial features of the RLI process, there is its capability to manufacture large objects , much wider than the other HTS materials. Therefore the MgB2 by RLI can approach superconducting applications exploited only with difficulties by the LTS materials , due to their intrinsic thermal instability. Among these applications, the magnetic shielding appears easier as passive superconducting system, but also the magnetic field trapping and the field concentration are of potential interest in near future applications. A review of the properties of the bulk MgB2 by RLI will be presented, together with some details of their possible applications
