EUTelescope Developers Meeting

• Installation
  • Take ROOT out of ILCinstall, have users install themselves -> Tom
    • Install doesn't work with ROOT 6
    • Should check if ROOT already installed -> download if it isn't
    • Tobias and Simon working to create an installer for developers -> Frank Gaede
    • Tom learning Python, understanding ilcsoft-install, got in contact with Frank Gaede,
      will start working this week
      --> Which ROOT version to install? 6.08.00 is used in our development branch
      --> Use compiler version gcc 4.9 or newer (same version as EUDAQ should work)
• Documentation
  • Tom's documentation for Pixel? -> report in Pixel TB meeting sometime
    • To be expanded for use by 'everyone'
      --> first draft done, Tom will circulate for revision
      --> once finalized, upload to github-wiki and link to it from eutelescope.web.cern.ch
      --> also announce in all interested testbeam users meetings
    • Virtual machines with working installation available
      • strip ones ready for distribution
      • standard ones ready in a few days -> are online!
      • Tobias started docker image for VMs, should be faster than standard VM
        --> is this something we want to do?
        --> We get them for free due to CI -> switch to these at some point, but keep VMs for now
  • Updating/concentrating mailing lists for users and developers -> Edo, (Tobias)
    • One list for developers, one for announcements to users
      --> eutelescope-users, announce on github wiki page
    • Questions/discussions on issue tracker

• Clean up old code -> Tobias
  • Implement nice indentation using clang_format
    • Convention on Euler angles -> ALICE needs to change some processors, tbd next months
      --> will be documented on github-wiki
  • Tbd: remove some old processors
    • Starting to remove old style alignment -> backward compatible

• X0 measurement
  • Benni/Ulf's code, GBL-based (biased, because you put in a material estimate!)
  • Study resolution and impact of bias in GBL-method -> Hendrik
    • Test measurements in week 44
    • Not done -> do before Christmas
• GBL
  • create more general version, compatible with current definitions -> Tom (Tobias)
  • Implement generalized track search (currently using triplet search for pattern recognition)
  • Implement track reconstruction in B-field
  • Tobias meeting with Paul to re-integrate Pauls code

 

• Test/update examples, nightlies and continuous integration -> Edo, Tobias
  • To be done when version is stable, after development and clean up
  • Travis CI running on docker image, rebuild only EUTelescope --> Travis CI tests work now
  • Also: c_test now tests against reference histos from EUTelescope examples

 

• EUDAQ2 readiness
  • Will try to organize a meeting soon
  • Need more manpower to do this
  • We'll need it around summer (according to EUDAQ developers)

 

• Long term maintenance
  • Regular meetings -> biweekly, Monday 10am, announced via eutelescope-meeting@cern.ch -> Jens
    • Move agenda to DESY indico
      • Jan made agenda available, but: DESY indico missing vidyo functionality, some people don't have accounts
    • Try out CERN again: Category is Home/Experiments/EUDET
      • Test for next meeting

• Paper -> Jens, Hendrik
  • Measurements to show?
  • Validation with simulation
    • Alignment precision, weak modes, etc.
    • Pointing resolution
    • DAF vs GBL
