LIU Beam Parameter WG meeting #17
Follow up from last meeting
A draft version of the new LIU beam parameter table was shown. It contains both the parameters for the standard and BCMS(+) beam, with lines for the achieved values and LIU targets. It was agreed to keep both the injected values and the values after filamentation for bunch length and longitudinal emittance. The values at injection of the SPS have been provided by Heiko. The values at injection in LHC have to be provided by Elena. Action: Elena.
The present table is attached to this meeting
Measurements of recombination kicker waveforms
Vincenzo presented an exhaustive overview on the beam-based measurements of the recombination kickers. The requirement is that the rise time (2-98%) should be 105 ns and +/- 2% ripple on flat top (to guarantee <3% emittance growth in the PSB-PS transfer)
- Beam-based measurement agree impressively well with direct field measurements for BT2.KFA20. The rise time is 105 ns
- For BT1(4).KFA10 the agreement is less good. The rise time is anyway below 105 ns for BT4.KFA10, while slightly above for BT1.KFA10.
- The beam brightness measured using the SEM screens in BTM when extracting from PSB bunches with 180 ad 220 ns length was also checked. With BTx.KFA10 the transfer seems to work well preserving the brightness and with up to 20 ns margin with 220 ns long bunches. BT2.KFA20 however seems to be at the very limit with 220 ns long bunches.
- An emittance blow-up is visible due to the KFA20 ripple, therefore the ripple must be reduced in amplitude and/or in time, which requires HW improvement.
- Using the waveforms of the KFAs in simulations, it is found that R1 would have maximum emittance blow up anyway below 3% for transfer of bunches 220 ns long at 1.4 GeV. 2 GeV emittance blow-up simulations will continue from calculated PSpice magnetic waveforms.
- LIU baseline foresees (i) magnets to be exchanged (ferrites upgraded) and (ii) filters to be tuned in order to reduce rise-time for BTx.KFA10 and reconfiguration of powering scheme (like KFA10) for BT2.KFA20.
- A list of future ABT MDs has been presented in order to assess the impact of transfer on the overall (horizontal and vertical) PS emittance growth at injection.
