Description

For a low energy effective theory to admit a standard Wilsonian UV completion, its scattering amplitudes must satisfy certain inequalities. These “positivity bounds” can go a long way to distinguish between different classes of effective field theories relevant for cosmology and particle physics.
While these bounds are known to leading order for scalar particles and in the forward limit for particles with nonzero spin, any extension beyond this is subtle. I will review these positivity bounds and show how to extend them before applying them to particular theories.
