Fortnightly meeting for technical topics looking further ahead than the weekly ops meetings on Tuesdays. There are also dedicated storage group meeting on Wednesdays. Each topic can go beyond the nominal 5 minute slot whenever necessary.

Notes from Technical Meeting

Redhat 7 work.

Steve J. has set up a separate cluster. ARC condor CE and things seem to working well. There is no lcg-utils and people are encourage gfal2 packages instead.  Things are going well currently seen Atlas, SNO+ and ILC jobs. Jobs will land there by accident as this is in production. Peter L. suggested taking out of production but he will add it to the pilot.

ECDF has also gone RH7 but they have provided resources as RH6. They used some packages from the yet to be released UMD software set. Anybody from ECDF should feel free to

Containers

The T1 has about 6000 cores running RH7 running jobs in Docker containers running Cento6 ... singularity coming. Singularity is much simpler than Docker (according to Andrew L. who runs both).   Docker requires a demon whereas Singularity is a simple executable.

Is Singularity the future? The complication (according to Peter L.) is that we are still dealing with grid sites. We will end up using containers (and clouds) or a mixed Grid world?

Standing items

Vac etc... nothing much to say but there is progress on Docker containers. Belle 2 have started to use vcycle.

Atlas

Nothing to say ... but things talk about next week. Glasgow testing Singularity.

CMS

Not much to say.

LHCb

Generic Docker dirac pilot container now available.

Dirac

Hunting down some storage failures for LSST (looks like bit rot), now getting rid of any traces of lcg-utils (will take a couple of weeks).

Storage

xrootd re-director in scotgrid is moving over to Sam.

Network

Nothing

Security

Nothing
