Developer's meeting

→ Europe/Zurich

present: Giovanna, Enrico, Roland, Eric, Dan, Milo, Frank

MW3 report (Enrico):

  • good progress on data flow issues:
    • can either have the "transmitter" VC709 card generate frames or obtain from them from a software back-end (in burst mode: flx-upload)
    • can either use 'fedump' to dump data directly, or flx-core to publish (to subscribers)
  • but there are still firmware issues that prevent extended and entirely meaningful tests
    • Enrico is preparing a summary for the FELIX developers; some regularities observed that could help
  • planning (and discussion): would like to continue with tests
    • include trigger selection (but this will need properly incrementing timestamps (in either generation mode) and needs the firmware issues to be sorted out)
    • add a software back-end for more continuous data transmission (in lieu of flx-upload)
    • N.B. intend to continue testing at CERN with 2 VC709 cards

Planning discussion (other items):

  • Giovanna: a WIB should be arriving at BU shortly. Dan: great. Will also obtain a VC709 board and test with FELIX. Can anyone send instructions? Enrico: will post on the mailing list
  • Giovanna: should see progress on compression. Milo: agreed, with the help of Eric's reverse-engineered MicroBooNE data event that should become easier
  • Giovanna: desirable to know who is planning to be at CERN in ~ August (possibly earlier): possibility to start integration at EHN1
    • Frank: are there any constraints from the overall DAQ side? Giovanna: no, it's up to us to decide when we want to integrate. (Clearly we should be fairly sure that all issues have been ironed out before doing so.)
  • FELIX documentation: agree on subdivision into
    • practical information (on Twiki pages)
    • longer write-up to go into DocDB. Giovanna suggests Google doc for collaboration on this.

AOB:

  • next meeting: in two weeks' time
  • meeting time: propose to have subsequent meetings start one hour later (so 18:00-19:00 CERN time), to avoid clashing with the ProtoDUNE-SP DRA meetings. Please let me know if there are any objections against this — we can attempt to find an alternative slot if need be.
There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
    • 14:00 → 14:30
      Conclusions from MSW3 30m
Speakers: Enrico Gamberini (CERN), Mr Milo Vermeulen (Nikhef National institute for subatomic physics (NL)), Roland Sipos (Eotvos Lorand University (HU))
