I will present how a data science approach powered by machine learning uncovers statistical evidence for the existence of a functional relation between topological data of a local Calabi-Yau 3-fold and the corresponding minimum volume obtainable from a-maximization in the N=1 supersymmetric world-volume gauge theory on a stack of probing D3-branes.
