Production process of alumina ceramics beam chambers for use in J-PARC 3-GeV RCS (rapid-cycling synchrotron) 45m
In order to avoid the eddy-current effect due to a rapid-cycling magnetic field in the J-PARC proton synchrotron ring (348 m in circumference), several tens of ceramic chambers (3.5-m long and 500 mm in diameter, at their maximum) have been installed. The 99.7% alumina ceramic ducts of sub-meter long, having cross sections of racetrack, circular, rectangular and racket-shape, were sintered and jointed by braze with Ti flanges. A TiN film of 15 nm thick was formed inside the chambers for suppressing secondary electron emission, and electroformed copper stripes were plated outside for lowering the beam-impedance. The course of the production process and the measured outgassing rates for these chambers will be reports.

Electric Discharge Suppression by Outgas Reduction from Kicker Magnet of J-PARC RCS 45m
Extraction kicker magnets in the RCS of the J-PARC project, being installed in vacuum chambers, are operated by pulsed charging voltage of 60 kV. The electrical discharge had been a problem after the continuous excitation test. Materials used for the magnet mainly consist of aluminum alloy for the electrode plates and ferrites for the magnetic cores. We thoroughly reduced the outgassing rates from the components. The surface of the aluminum alloy was finished by electro-polishing, and further, aluminum alloy and ferrites cores were baked in a vacuum before and after construction of the magnet. After these processes, although the outgassing from some components increased when applying high voltage, repetitive conditioning of the magnets by continuous excitation are found to be effective to reduce the outgassing from these components.
