Pre-GDB discussion on Object Stores 20m

      https://indico.cern.ch/event/578974/

Speaker: Alastair Dewhurst (STFC - Rutherford Appleton Lab. (GB))

      Gave talk at WLCG meeting:

I will have a few slides on Echo but I don’t think (or want) to encourage people to deploy Ceph with our XRootD/GridFTP plugin:
      - There will be ongoing effort to support a HEP specific thing.
      - Some sites won’t want to make the invasive adjustments to their cluster (e.g. creating new pools).
      - VO continue to use storage like a file system based one.

We want to just provide S3/SWIFT interface.  We want to find a way to integrate this smoothly into WLCG data models.

I am working on a document regarding integration of object stores into WLCG data model.  I started writing a document about integration with GridFTP, then realised it should be more general purpose.

I hope to have it in better shape by next weeks pre-GDB.  I feel this will also fit well with various other recent documents (from HSF etc) that try to talk about object stores but without a clear idea how things could evolve.
