Description

I use the AdS/CFT correspondence to study the symmetry structure of quantum gravity.  Using the CFT I will give proofs of three old conjectures: in quantum gravity there are no global symmetries, when there is an internal gauge symmetry there must be objects that transform in all its irreducible representations, and the gauge group must be compact.  Along the way I will need to carefully define what I mean by gauge and global symmetries in quantum gravity and quantum field theory.  Based on work with Hirosi Ooguri.
