In this talk I will review the uses of effective field theory (EFT) in cosmological settings, which (somewhat unexpectedly) has allowed to gain novel physical insights into possible dynamics of both the early and the late universe. I will describe the implications of this approach for phenomenology of general single-field inflation and dark energy, physics of the primordial gravitational waves and non-singular alternatives to inflation.
