Description

17 Dec 2017: There are only a few seats left. Keep checking this page as there may be cancellations and new seats during the week.

During the 12th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum in Geneva, CERN offers you a unique opportunity to visit our Laboratory, the birthplace of the World Wide Web, which made the Internet a reality to billions of people.

Each guided tour will include a visit to Universe of Particles, an interactive exhibition where you will discover the big questions CERN is trying to answer on the structure of matter and the laws that govern our Universe. You will also see the very first World Wide Web server! You will then be brought to CERN's Data Centre, heart of the Worldwide Large Hadron Collider's Computing Grid, processing hundreds of Petabytes of data each year!

Guided tours are free and will be given in English. The guided tour lasts about 1:30 hour on the CERN site. Booking is mandatory, seats are limited. This is a unique opportunity. Don't wait too long as booking is first come, first serve based.

Click on Registration on the left-hand side menu, pick an available date and time, provide your personal data, confirm your booking and join us at CERN!

Getting to CERN from Palais des Nations takes around 45 minutes. Please take this into account to get to CERN in time!

  • Public transportation: from the Place des Nations, take tram 15 heading to Palettes, stop at Cornavin train station, and then take tram 18 heading to CERN (terminus).
  • Take a taxi to CERN - see address below

Once at CERN, head to the Reception building, opposite side to the Globe of Science and Innovation which you cannot miss, and inform the Reception staff you're on the IGF tour! Don't forget to take your IGF delegate badge with you.

Make sure to be on time. If you are late, just join us in the Globe exhibition and inform the guide you are part of the IGF tour.
