Minutes of the WP13 meeting 2018 #1

Monday 22 January 2018

Gas Jet Status & Plan for 2018 (Ray)

  • Fluorescence monitor:

    • ECR approved, with full analysis of impedance.

    • Installed at location of removed BGI (close to the final HEL location), gas injection system of BGI will be reused.

    • Ne will be used. Gas species can be changed by filling a reservoir. Vacuum group agrees to any noble gas. N2 not excluded.

    • Everything that could be done during YETS should be done: support for camera.

    • Design & production of mechanics for optical system on track for installation by end YETS 17/18

    • Open Issues

      • Camera delivery

      • PMT cooling

        • Being discussed with EN-CV

  • BGC version 2 prototype: designed, largely constructed and being assembled at Cockcroft. Collaboration meeting in March (https://indico.cern.ch/event/689615/) to agree experimental programme of new set-up in Cockcroft and fluorescence test in LHC.

    • Open Issues e-gun status?

  • BGC Next prototype: version 3 to be installed in LHC earliest summer 2020 (end of LS2) in Left of P4 on B1. In drawings still the lab design reduced in scale, not the final optimised design.

    • Decision to be taken on phased installation alike the BGV, also taking into account that ECR for LS2 have to be ready by March 2018.

      • Phase 1: sectorise + install 3 chambers (1 at right length as BGC interaction chamber) + pull cables

      • Phase 2: add BGC interaction chamber with valves on jet & exhaust

      • Phase 3: add BGC elements

    • Paolo Fessia agreed on it on some conditions. Present ECR will include approval from impedance and vacuum (phase 1&2), integration of racks (as for HEL). To be presented on 26/01 TCC meeting on 26/1/2018.

    • Should be presented at HL-TCC before it goes out for approval

    • Chamber in ECR will be an initial, provisional, optimised design

    • Includes rack request for services already prepared for hollow e-lens

    • Final ECR once design for full instrument exists

Rhodri agrees to the phased ECR and encourages to go ahead.

Optics in IP4

Request so far: Constant beta function required through the cycle

Now: maximise beam size at flat top

Propose an optics and we should evaluate impact on different instruments.

Injection/flattop optics

BGI

~ -63m (B1)

N/A

as large as possible

BGI for HL

one on each side – opposite beam from BSRT. (BGI B1 on L, BGI B2 on R)

N/A

as large as possible

BGV now

~ -220m (B2)

N/A

as large as possible

*

BGV for HL

1 on B2. Baseline location for HL between Q6 and Q7. Could also consider Q5 to Q6 but more crowded.

N/A

as large as possible circular beam

constant beam size throughout the cycle would be an advantage

BSRT – BSRI

~ ±59m

90° from crabs and -180°from IP in IP1/5

as large as possible

*

E/O BPM

Where phase advance (Q5-Q6 easier to integrate)

90° from crabs and -180°from IP in IP1/5

HEL

~ +40m (B1), -40m (B2)

N/A

as large as possible circular beam

constant beam size throughout the cycle would be an advantage

Schottky BPM

BQSV & BQSH

~ 115.3, 174.1m (B1) ~ 114, 176m (B2)

N/A

as large as possible

Orbit must be in the centre throughout the cycle*

Tune BPM

BQL

~ 138, 149, 172.7m (B1) ~ -175, -116.8m (B2)

N/A

as large as possible

*

WS

~ ±85m

N/A

as large as possible

*

* change in beta between injection and flattop (if not too large) should be ok, to be evaluated depending on proposed optics. Beta must then be measured throughout the full cycle.

This table will be completed and sent to WP2 before the WP2/WP13 meeting on the 20th of February.
