DynaFed Development
Attendees: Alastair, Catalin, Alison
Apologies: Ian (holiday), Louise (not started yet!)
Minutes
- For Catalin’s benefit explained briefly what Louise Davies would be working on. The graduate placement form with project summary has been sent to him. Users of the Ligo experiment rely on their username and password credential to access many resources and there is an ideal opportunity to test the plugins once they are developed against real world needs and usage.
- Discussed a few of the Large Scale CVMFS + DynaFed slides from last year (attached to agenda).
- Catalin explained that he was able to configure secure CVMFS for a generic VO. All WN at RAL have the X509 helper plugin installed. Catalin has setup secure CVMFS with Tom Whyntie for gridmi.egi.eu (a medical imaging VO).
- Alison noted that we need to be very clear what we mean by "secure”. The level of data security a VO working on medical imaging may require compared to typical VOs we support might be very different.
- It is not clear which machines (if any) currently have the Large Scale CVMFS for Ligo configured. Neither Alastair or Catalin are sure how to get Ligo credentials.
- For further testing of LS CVMFS we would like another site (Glasgow) to set it up. This has proven much quicker when people meet in person. Catalin will be attending HEPSysman in Glasgow in a few weeks and there is also the CVMFS Workshop in CERN, that he will be attending (that could be attended by other sites). Catalin will be giving a presentation at the CVMFS worksop and a slide or two about this work might be useful.
- It was noted that since Andrew Lahiff has left there is significantly more operational work for Catalin (and others) to do. It was suggested that an apprentice to look after the batch farm might be a good idea.
Actions:
1) Catalin to document secure CVMFS setup on grip wiki.
2) Alastair to document how to setup ligo credential and submit a job to RAL via the Grid.
3) i) Test access to gridmi.egi.eu from a UI.
ii) Test access to gridmi.egi.eu from RAL batch farm.
4) Setup LS CVMFS for Ligo on a UI.
5) Contact Glasgow about one of them possibly attending CVMFS workshop.
6) Alastair to talk to George Ryall about recruiting an apprentice to take some operational load of running the batch farm.
7) Alastair will work on adding Echo to the LDR.
