Developer's meeting

→ Europe/Zurich

present: Enrico, Roland, Giovanna, Eric, Milo, Frank

Throughput tests:

  • "power budget exceeded" issues have returned
    • issue thought to be not with the card but with the PCIe power consumption
    • likely related to f/w update of the FELIX host. Roland will try to play with this once more
  • severe performance penalty when moving netio::messages in memory
    • it may be possible to send many frames in a single netio::message, this would greatly reduce message fragmentation
  • another issue is that the felixcore throughput is not high enough
    • Roland is discussing details with Joern
    • among other items, ProtoDUNE specific modifications are conceivable; however, branching off the main FELIX development would mean losing "automatic" support

Planning:

  • Roland is planning to have another meeting with Joern soon, to see what can be further optimised on the TCP/IP side (leave Infiniband as a backup option for now)
  • next week: also complete the BoardReaders -- more thorough data quality tests can then start

Next meeting: tentatively planned for March 21, unless Roland et al. indicate that it will be useful to have a meeting already next week
