Phases of 5D SCFTs from F-theory on non-flat fibrations

One approach to the classification program of 5D N=1 superconformal field theories (SCFTs) is via M-theory compactifications on Calabi—Yau threefolds. By studying elliptically fibered threefolds with non-flat fibers, I will show that the duality to F-theory provides a straightforward method to identify a 5D theory and its mass deformed phases as the circle compactification of a unique 6D SCFT. This insight could help answer the question whether all 5D SCFTs have a uplift to 6D, where all 6D SCFTs have been classified through F-theory.
