Modelling the clustering of dark matter haloes

An accurate description of the spatial and velocity distribution of galaxies is required to extract maximum information from present and forthcoming galaxy redshift surveys. In the context of CDM cosmologies, which predict that galaxies reside inside virialized haloes of dark matter, understanding the clustering of dark matter haloes is a crucial step towards modelling galaxy clustering. I will show that many insights can be gained from a study of density peaks, particularly with regards to the scale dependence of the spatial and velocity bias in cosmologies with Gaussian and non-Gaussian primordial perturbations.
