Agenda & Minutes

Going through the slides that Paula and Miguel prepared.

Points rised in discussion:

  • A bit of study phase is included too
  • There is always a pain, need and desire
  • Think before you do. Who sponsors and how the money is guaranteed for the whole duration of the project.
  • Proposal for HL-LHC design study still to be found
  • LHC is a project of projects = program where each of the work pachages is an individual project
  • Thijs: "Can you come up with a pool of things that you consider good?"
  • We are having a lot of examples, but are they any good?
  • Make it coherent between the booklet and the slides; eg. executive summary is missing from the booklet
  • new items to the standards, such as primary breakdown,
  • Nowadays Cost, Scope & Time --> Value, Quality& Image/ reputation
  • take into account stakeholders; in CERN's case competitiors are other labs and research center; It is always a question of "why did you choose to do otherwise?"
  • define your benefit, and that shall be the aimed impact of the project
  • Risks are positive of negative impacts. There are known risks, unknown risks (contingency), unknown unknown risks
  • how are you measuring the benefits/ achieving the goals?
  • PMI standard for program management
  • "how the decisions are going to be taken - something missing in project proposals in general?" - paula

Next steps:

  • benefits management plan
  • remarks paula wrote down to her
  •
