Description
Title: NA4 Steering Committee Date: Thursday, 10 December Time: 14:30-16:00 Size: 10 people Phone: +33 (0)1 56 78 86 88
Attendees: Geraldine Fettahi Frederic Schaer Vangelis Floros Paschalis Korosoglou Christophe Blanchet Cal Loomis Claudio Vuerli Tristan Glatard Patricia Mendez Apologies: Johan Montagnet Cecile Germain Mariusz Sterzel Stuart Dunn Frank Harris UF4 Papers and UF5 Status ------------------------- UF4 Papers: Finished first round with reviews from 28 papers. The guest editors have looked at those reviews and have chosen 10 for publication in the journal. The notifications to the authors will be sent shortly after confirmation by the journal editor (Peter Kascuk). Expecting that revisions based on feedback will start soon with new versions to be ready by the end of January for checking, and absolutely final papers to be ready for typesetting by March 15. Publication is planned for the September issue of JOGC. UF5 status. Abstract deadline extended to 14th December. Vangelis has distributed the first set of abstracts for reviews. Had 59 abstracts on the 7th and currently have 65, although a few (2-3) have been withdrawn. Vangelis will distribute all of the reviews to the progra committee after the 14th. Deadline for the reviews by the program committee is 8 January. The keynote speakers are mostly finalized (4/5). There is no answer from one speaker suggested by Cecile. Both Cecile and Vangelis are following up on this, although if there is no answer soon backup speakers should be contacted. ** Important ** Each cluster will have 3 free registrations to give away to people and 1 person that will have the registration and travel covered. The 1 person with registration and travel should be a speaker at the event. These are limited to non-EGEE personnel. Invitees will be expected to provide written feedback (0.5-1.0 pages) on the event. Vangelis needs the names and emails of these people ASAP so he can give them to Kristina. The people involved should **NOT** register via the normal conference website. Currently only Mariusz has sent names. Everyone else send them ASAP! Lumerical Solutions on the Grid ------------------------------- Have been contacted by the company behind this software about having it run on more EGEE sites. It currently runs in ScotGrid for a few users. The company has provided a list of users that may be interested in using the software in conjunction with EGEE. Vangelis and Cal have asked Gergely and the APS team to look after this. EGEE-III to EGI Transition -------------------------- In the remainder of the project we should see what can be done to make the transition to EGI and the EGI startup as smooth as possible. Vangelis and Cal identified the following possible areas: * Inviting new communities to NA4 SC: Humanities, Photon Science, and Complexity Science have already been invited. Any other areas are welcome. * ROSCOE identified a list of metrics that they would like collected automatically. (The project won't invest time in non-automated metrics.) We can work with SA1/JRA1 to have as many of these implemented in EGEE-III as possible. The list of identified metrics are: Number of registered VOs in the domain; numbers of users in the VOs Number sites supporting VOs in the domain; number passing QA tests Average reliability and availability of sites supporting a domain Number of registered applications in a domain, broken down by stage Amount of CPU used; number of jobs Amount of storage used; number of files Amount of bandwidth; number of file transfers * VO clean-up: The idea is to follow up on reviewer comments and try to reduce the number of unused, duplicate VOs. Fred is following this up with Steven. In AOB, Fred brought up the idea of requiring VOs to "re-register" each year. People thought that this was a good idea to ensure that the VOs are engaged and active. * Scientific Gateways: Scope of this would probably be limited to making sure each community has a page up in the EGI domain for its community (similar to pages now in EGEE) and the collection of requirements/current implementations. * GGUS Support Teams: Most user communities will have a support team. The idea here would be to already get them identified and registered in GGUS to make the transition easier. gLite Components Release Schedule --------------------------------- On the agenda page is a link to the current gLite components release schedule. Please provide feedback from your communities to Vangelis before next Tuesday. Issues that come up during the meeting: 1) Implementation of standard SQUID/Frontier caches. 2) Allowing gLite clients to use more than one WMS. 3) Having a WMS that talks with CREAM as a high priority. 4) Multiplatform support (esp. for WN software) AOB --- See note about VO re-registration in the text above.
