Description

This is the monthly meeting of the darkmachines initative. We discuss applications of Machine Learning to the search of New Physics and Dark Matter.

      Looking for New Physics in the Trigger system of an LHC experiment 30m

      We will discuss how Variational Autoencoders could be used to look for new physics
      in the trigger system of an LHC experiment, before the majority of the
      events is discarded forever and how Deep Learning could generically
      help to improve the decision of which event to keep for further studies.

      SkyFACT: How to marry image reconstruction with template regression without causing collateral damage 30m

      The modeling and analysis of gamma-ray data is affected by imperfect knowledge about diffuse
      and discrete emission components. I will discuss our tool SkyFACT (Sky Factorization with
      Adaptive Constrained Templates), which allows us to account for millions of nuisance parameters in a
      way akin to image reconstruction, and discuss some physics results and possible applications
      to dark matter searches.
