How to Embrace a Naked Singularity

Description

I will use holography to study the vacuum structure of a four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric QFT, known as N=1*, obtained as a superpotential mass deformation of N=4 SYM. A central role in this discussion is played by a new analytic background of type IIB supergravity obtained by uplifting the well-known five-dimensional GPPZ solution. The ten-dimensional solution exhibits a naked singularity which reflects the IR physics in the gauge theory. I will discuss in detail how to probe this naked singularity and the implications for the physics of the dual gauge theory.
