Diplômé de l’Ecole des Mines (Paris) et du California Institute of Technology (Pasadena), Philippe Lebrun a travaillé à la conception, à la construction et au management de projets de grands accélérateurs de particules au CERN, l’Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire à Genève (Suisse) depuis les années 1970. Spécialisé dans le domaine des aimants supraconducteurs et de la cryogénie, il a dirigé le département « Technologies des accélérateurs » pendant la construction du Grand Collisionneurs de Hadrons (LHC), le vaisseau amiral du CERN. Il a également assuré la responsabilité de collaborations internationales bilatérales et multilatérales dans le domaine scientifique. Récemment retraité du CERN, il dirige actuellement l’Ecole Interuniversitaire sur les Accélérateurs de Particules (JUAS) à l’European Scientific Institute d’Archamps (France).
A graduate of Ecole des Mines (Paris) and the California Institute of Technology (Pasadena), Philippe Lebrun has been working on the design, construction and management of high-energy particle accelerator projects at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva (Switzerland) since the 1970s. With a background in superconducting magnets and cryogenics, he led the “Accelerator Technology” department of CERN during the construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN’s flagship facility. He also managed several bilateral and multilateral international collaborations in the field of scientific projects. Recently retired from CERN, he is now the director of the Joint Universities Accelerator School (JUAS) at the European Scientific Institute, Archamps (France).
