This is the first meeting of the group. These meeting notes will be broken down around the agenda items listed. If there are any omissions or errors please let me know (Ian Gable <igable@uvic.ca)>.

    1. Attendance---people and sites. To what extent can representatives commit sites? If not, what more is needed?

    • Tony asked to what extent people will able to commit to following the outcomes of the working group.
    • John Gordon commented that there is as yet no consensus as to what we were committing to.
    • Tony clarified that his goal is not to get commitments now but to ensure that sites feel as a result of this working group process that sites are adequately informed and participate. His desire that the people from sites represent the views of the sites to the group.
    • Keith commented that he was committed to bringing the results of the working group to Fermi Security teams and other appropriate people, in other words he is going to act as the 'interface' for Fermi Lab on the subject.
    • Owen and Thomas from DESY will also take the discussion to the appropriate people at DESY and act as an interface in the same way.
    • Tony asked that this discussion be noted in the minutes and that other group members take care to interface to the appropriate people at their site as it is important to the successful outcome of the working group.

    2. Review list of work areas

Tony listed the areas of concern and asked if this was an exhaustive list:

    How images can be:

    • generated securely and traceably
    • transmitted securely and efficiently
    • expired and revoked.
    • customized to meet individual site requirements
    • used with different hypervisors
    • Owen Synge commented that we need to discuss if it's an actual image that is being distributed or rather a process for creating an image.
    • John Gordon commented that it might lead to more site confidence in the images
    • Tony commented that he didn't want to get into the details at this point but it should be a point for discussion in the group
    • Tony mentioned that he was working to get people identified to lead the work on the areas identified above. He has emails out to some people and is waiting to hear back
    • Tony solicits input on who should be involved with the different work areas.

    3. Meetings

Tony asked if the group would like to stick to phone meetings or have some face to face meetings:

    • Mattieu Puel would prefer to meet people in person as it makes communication much easier, especially given the multilingual nature of the working group.
    • Michel Jouvin commented that a face to face meeting is necessary for the cohesiveness of the group.

The group then discussed the suitability of the upcoming Amsterdam GDB (March 24th) meeting or the the Lisbon HEPiX (April 19 to 23). For people coming from the US the notice for March 24th might be short (US DOE requires 60 working days notice). Tony resolved to explore immediately with Michel the possibility of holding a meeting at HEPiX.

    4. Assigning tasks to people

Tony asked if it was reasonable to look for people to lead the various work areas. There were no objections. Tony commented that this will be the focus between now and the next meeting. He is also interested in receiving suggestions on this.

    5. Next Meeting

The next will occur at 16:00 UTC Feb 8.
