High momentum partons lose energy through interactions with the hot and dense deconfined QCD matter created in heavy-ion collisions. Such partonic energy loss leads to the suppression of high-pT particle production. The study of this suppression allows for the extraction of medium properties such as the transport coefficient q^. Whether such a deconfined medium can also be formed in smaller collision systems (like p-Pb or pp) has remained an open question, in large part due to the complete absence of experimental evidence for partonic energy loss in small colliding systems.
