Description

WIT is happy to announce the screening of the movie "Miss Representation" thanks to the support of the CERN Diversity and Inclusion Office.

Miss Representation is a 2011 American documentary film written, directed, and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The films portrays the daily struggles women face both within and outside the workplace. By exploring how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women, Newsom makes the film's motives obvious to viewers watching.

The media is selling young people the idea that girls’ and women’s value lies in their youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in their capacity as leaders. Boys learn that their success is tied to dominance, power, and aggression. We must value people as whole human beings, not gendered stereotypes.

We will screen this session, which takes 1h30min, and invite you all to join us afterwards for discussions and a light lunch sponsored by the IT Department. Just outside of the Council Chamber.
