Description
Space charge in the damping rings RF frequencies in the injector
Participants: E. Adli, F. Antoniou, R. Corsini, B. Dalena, S. Döbert, K. Elsener, L. Gatignon, A. Grudiev, M. Jonker, R. Lillestol, E. Marin, Ö. Mete, R. Mutzner, J. Papaphilippou, J. Pfingstner, L. Rinolfi, G. Rumolo, D. Schulte, P. Skowronski, J. Snuverink, G. Sterbini, F. Stulle, A. Vivoli D.S. reported on the summary and the recommendations given by the CLIC ACE. Y.P. discussed space charge issues in the damping rings and different ways to mitigate it. Most likely the bunch length will be increased, which would also lead to a larger longitudinal emittance. The advantages of using an RF of 1GHz will be evaluated. S.D. showed some slides on the different options for the RF frequencies in the main beam injector, the damping rings and the RTML. A discussion followed on advantages and disadvantages of the various options. It was concluded that for the injector changing to a frequency of 1GHz would only lead to a small improvement. Hence, its RF will remain at 2GHz. The damping rings need further evaluation prior to a decision. In the RTML there are no obvious preferences for either 2 or 4GHz. To ease RF design it could be preferable to get rid of the 4GHz cavities, because they are currently used exclusively in the RTML. F.S. will check if 2GHz are suitable for beam dynamics. S.D. will work on the 2GHz structure design including higher-order modes. He will provide cavity data to evaluate the influence of wake fields on beam dynamics.
