The theory of domain wall fermions used in lattice field theory provides a relativistic version of the topological insulators studied by condensed matter physicists. Many phenomena, such as the Integer Quantum Hall Effect, chiral and Majorana edge states, the Quantum Spin Hall Effect, and topological phases have their analogues in the relativistic theories. After surveying these connections, I show how to add to that list by constructing a simple analogue of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect in 2+1 dimensions, and predict a new phenomenon in the form of a Fractional Quantum Spin Hall Effect.
