Description

The Horizon2020 design study EuPRAXIA was started in 2015 with the goal of developing the conceptual design (CDR) for a European plasma accelerator facility. The EuPRAXIA consortium is formed by 41 institutes from Europe, Asia and US. While plasma accelerators achieve unmatched acceleration gradients their applications are limited by electron beam quality, in particular the large inherent energy spread of plasma accelerators. The talk explains the concept of a European plasma accelerator facility EuPRAXIA that is designed to produce high quality electron beams and to develop applications of plasma accelerators in the energy range up to 5 GeV. Technologies used in EuPRAXIA include laser-plasma injectors, RF photo-injectors, X band RF structures, multi-GeV plasma accelerator stages, high power lasers and application beamlines. Several new EuPRAXIA approaches have been published and will be explained. The possible implementation model and future perspectives for a future EuPRAXIA research infrastructure are discussed and its role as a required stepping stone to a possible plasma linear collider is presented.
