The LHC has concluded its Run-2 operation at the end of 2018. ATLAS and CMS have successfully collected about 140/fb per experiment and are analysing the huge dataset searching for new physics, performing precision measurements and shading light on the Higgs boson. The next LHC data-taking period, Run 3 and High Luminosity (HL) LHC, will offer huge opportunities, thanks also to the renewed and upgraded detectors. In particular, the HL-LHC upgrade will eventually collect an integrated luminosity of 3/ab of data in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV, and will maximise the LHC potential, bringing significant advances relative to today’s landscape. Prospects for Run 3 and HL-LHC are presented in this talk, with focus on the Higgs sector, SM precision measurements and searches for new physics.
