Abstract: I will discuss the ability of current and future gamma-ray datasets to constrain dark matter candidates that are otherwise very difficult to probe, focusing on the cases of asteroid-mass primordial black holes and thermal winos and higgsinos. I will present new constraints on the PBH mass and DM fraction from INTEGRAL data, briefly outline recent theoretical progress in computing the expected annihilation signals of winos and higgsinos, and show that the upcoming CTA gamma-ray telescope array should still have sensitivity to the thermal higgsino even once a range of systematic uncertainties are taken into account.
