Benjamin Bradu (CERN)

The objective of this meeting is to provide a picture of the current activities of the group about dynamic simulations using EcosimPro software with the CRYOLIB library. Four sections are currently using EcosimPro (OP,CE,ME,ML) and each of them gave a short summary.

OP (Benjamin)

  • Operator training in B36. Currently under upgrade. To be re-commissioned before new operator arrivals (April 2020)
  • Beam screen dynamics studies with validation of the new Feed-Forward controls allowing a smooth deployment on the real machine.
  • New control in QURC AL (LS2): virtual commissioning of the cold compressor control. 15h instead of more than 100 hours of operation without risk.
  • Simulation of HL cryogenics validation of the LSS of P1 and P5 but we need the data of string to confirm the results.
  • Foreseen development:  Enlarge cryo simulation lab with atlas-MR. New DFB control validation (Stagiaire with CE)

CE (Marco)

  • Virtual Commissioning of control system (Bat165)
  • SM18 CFB cooldown. Compare different control approaches taking into account flow, temperature and pressure constraints.
  • B279 CP Fuzzy PI pressure controller.

 ML (Philippe)

  • Preserve roberta’s work: Fault Diagnostic and Isolation. Many small case studies done. To be seen how to apply this to operation.
  • Optimize the Test facilities
  • Train operators
  • Forecast usage: want to use EcosimPro to develop/validate controls when the process dynamics plays an important role.

 ME (Andreas)

  • Objective of ME was to asses EcosimPro for some safety analysis and to reproduce some dynamic thermo-mechanical effects
  • Study done on quench relief valves on the String 3
  • Benchmark of safety relief scenarios
  • HL LHC thermal design of Inner triplet Helium evaporator pots
  • Benchmark development for safety valves on transfer lines.
