Description

In this talk I will review some essential facts about the known landscape of string vacua and its potential implications for particle physics and cosmology. A central focus will be on string remnants, which are new particles that are apparently accidental consequences of the ultraviolet theory, not necessarily motivated by specific shortcoming of the standard models of particle physics or cosmology. A particular focus will be given to dark gauge sectors and axion-like particles, including their couplings to the photon.
