CINT and I/O (Philippe)
============================
CINT:
For the Nov 22 release branch or the dev release we plan to upload
the snapshot of Cint/Reflex with a modified build system, so we get
binary compatible libCint and libCintNew. We expect to have all but
variables and functions converted to Reflex for the November release. We
expect to be done with the functions and maybe even the variables for
the production release.
===>NOT implemented
New build system (CINT5 +7 ) for 5.14
Changes to CINT5 to make compatible with CINT7.
Axel will present status report in 2 weeks
TTree/IO:
- Update the implementation of the AutoAppendToDirectory feature
so that instead of having to undo it in the place we don't want
it (for which we do not have an exhautive list), we do it only
where we want it (user call to constructor and load from file via TKey).
- Enable the memory clean in TTree to have the memory leak of the
contained data objects.
- Loading cintdlls automatically (from the I/O) to avoid using
an EmulatedCollectionProxy with a compiled STL container (different
layout) and warn the user when he should have created a dictioanary
for a stl container that is not provided by default (like vector<MyClass>)
- Update SetBranchStatus("*",1) so that it really enables all branches
(instead of __only__ the one with a leaf).
===>NOT implemented
Math (Lorenzo):
===============
Apart from bug fixes and eventual requests from the experiments for SMatrix and
mathcore, the major planned work is:
- to develop and integrate in ROOT new fitting classes with the aim to replace
the TVirtualFitter.
The plan is to start integrating them in CVS at the end of October/ beginning
of November.
The initial functionality should be at least what the TVirtualFitter provides
right now.
Implement also new functionality in the Fit panel, like a minimization sub-p
anel, using the new classes.
TF1 should also started to be then modified, maintaining backward compatibili
ty, to use the new interfaces and classes.
===>NOT done
- Extend Mathmore adding the algorithm from GSL for multidimensional functions
===>will be done today
- integrate Unuran. What is missing before putting in CVS is the porting on Win
dows.
The code compiles, the problem is more the build system.
===>Done. Must still optimize Makefile on Windows
- new developments are foreseen also in RooFit
===>NOT done
and TMVA.
===>done
Graphics : (Olivier):
==========================
OpenGL:
- TGLStackPainter,
- TGLTGraph2DPainter.
- Clipping box/plane to visualize the inside of TH3, TF3, Surface, Lego.
===>NOT done
===>Timur next Monday. New stuff for 5.14
Basic Graphics:
- Integrate TSpectrum2Painter.
- Integrate TGraphPolar.
- Integrate TPie.
===>Done (still bits in TPie)
Plus (if time):
- Text clipping in PS. A text clipped in PS disapear completly
===>in 5.14
- SetRightMargin() does not work on TH3 drawing.
- Problem with Label and Tick mark size on axis with labels defined
using SetBinLabel().
- TGraph2D: With option TRI1 the color palette does not follow the same
rules as option SURF1 or COL.
===>NOT done
GUI (Ilka):
============
below is included the GUI planning (apart from unforeseen bug fixes and/or user
requests):
- Porting new features included in xclass library in TGFont and TGTextLayout c
lasses.
- new TGHtml class development.
===> NOT done
- new TGAnalogMeter development.
===>done
- To make possible cut and paste from a text entry widget to/from an external
window.
===>done
- Remove modal dialog restriction of the new Fit panel.
===>done
- Complete TFitParametersDialog with missing functionality.
===>done partially
- Implement new functionality in the Fit panel according to the new virtual fi
tter development (Minimization tab).
===>postponed
CORE (Fons)
===========
- TSystem interface to machine parameters:
- cpu info (type, number of cores, load, etc)
- memory (total installed, active, shared, paged,
used by current process, etc)
- network (10/100/1000 eth, av load, etc)
All this is needed for precise monitoring of PROOF workers
by MonALISA. It is highly OS dependent.
===>Done (still missing for Solaris).
- Parallel sockets (TPSocket) that work also when only one port in the
firewall is open, current version became un-usable due to strict
firewall rules enforced the last few years. First version ready,
under review now.
===>Not done
- Class supporting atomic operations needed for efficient
(better than mutex locking) reference counting in a
multi-threaded environment
===>Done
- Plugin manager changes as discussed before (self describing
plugins). Will probably not be ready by end of this year as
still open to discussion.
===>Not done (special meeting in January)
===>for 5.14 move libThread in libCore and use TAtomicCount
PROOF (Fons)
===========
- Fix all open bugs found during the ALICE test
===>Many fixed
- New time slice based packetizer
Not yet in production
===>may be in 5.14 (as an option).
- Introduction of monitoring interface (need TSystem extensions
mentioned above)
===>Done
- Running more ALICE tests
===>?? in progress
- Performance dashboard
===>Done
