This seminar provides an introduction to the mechanics of materials. To explain the concepts, we will analyse the mechanics behind the face shields that have been produced by our colleagues in EP-DT and other groups.
We will analyse the basic elements of the face shields in order to establish links between
- material properties and physical behaviour of mechanical systems;
- forces and deformations of mechanical components;
- forces and stresses induced in the material.
The seminar will provide an introduction to the concepts necessary to design simple engineering systems such as rods, shafts and beams.
