When I followed my particle physics class at the university in 1994, the last lectures were about the "still undiscovered particles", namely the top quark and the Higgs boson. The top quark has been discovered at the Tevatron in 1995, and the Higgs boson at the LHC in 2012, and now we know much more about the properties of these particles. The top quark is the heaviest particle in the Standard Model, therefore its coupling with the Higgs boson is the strongest. It is the only quark that decays so quickly that it cannot create bound states, and is an ideal laboratory for the search of new physics. The Higgs boson is also very special. It is the only fundamental boson that does not carry a force, but is responsible for giving mass to all other particles. Despite being the object of a detailed study at the LHC, precision measurements are difficult and will take time. The precision study of the properties of these two particles is the main reason why the particle physics community is thinking at a next-generation lepton collider that will briefly be discussed.
