      ITS surface commissioning 2h
      Speaker: Felix Reidt (CERN)

      Goals of the on-surface commissioning:

      - Verification of all the detector staves and cables up to the PP2 at the end of the Service Barrel

        * Exclusion of ‘installation damage’

        * Estimation of margin of DCTRL and HSlinks (HSlink issues would lead to a need for additional FW)

        * 2 cosmic data taking runs (minimum) with a distance of a week (worst case: manual setup of the detector and software)

        * NOT stability/performance test for RU/CRU/FLP/etc

      - At least 4 weeks of ‘burn-in’ for the full detector (IB ~done)

        * No performance alteration (loss of chips or links)

        * Continuous DCS monitoring

        * POTENTIALLY: readout tests to check the links continuously

        * Repeated threshold/noise to see stability

      - Conceptual verification of the full electronics chain detector up to CRU

        * Not all units need to be 100% tested

        * Trigger fiber splitting to be checked

        * Optical power margin

        * Clock distribution

      Planning:

      - Finish OB verification next week (software/firmware in good shape, solving remaining HW issues: cables, PBs, RUs)

      - Preparation of cosmics data taking until end of July

      - Finalize minimum verification (without 4 weeks burn-in) mid of August

      - Restart of shifts: earliest mid-August, realistically: end of August/beginning of September

      Duration of stave replacements (if needed):

      - OB: 6 weeks

      - IB: 3 weeks

      - Testing: ~2 weeks (4 weeks if both OB Half-Barrels concerned)
