Description

The offline characterization study of the in-gas-jet laser ionization and spectroscopy technique (IGLIS) is being finalized at KU Leuven. This laser spectroscopy tool offers a new method to study the hyperfine structure of heavy isotopes with high resolution and high efficiency using supersonic gas jets produced by state-of-the-art de Laval nozzles. This talk will highlight the completion of one of the study’s major benchmarks, the production and operation of high Mach number de Laval nozzles. An overview will be given concerning the design, production and characterization of these nozzles together with an outlook to the recently initiated first offline application of the IGLIS technique.
