Description

In Effective Field Theories, gauge anomalies are expected to be determined by the charge assignment of the fermion sector, as in renormalizable theories. Nevertheless, the mechanism of gauge anomaly cancellation is nontrivial and has direct consequences on the computation of physical quantities. By considering a simple explicit model that mimics the SMEFT properties and includes a complete set of dimension six operators, the (candidate) anomaly is evaluated in the regularized theory. The contribution to the anomaly from the non-renormalizable sector can be removed by a local counterterm, having a direct impact on the computation of scattering amplitudes in perturbation theory.
