The Tier-2 computing center is located at the High Performance Research Computing Facility at Bates. It is a resource with close to twenty thousand computing slots and about eight petabyte of storage space. The facility is mostly used by LHC experiments but some resources are available to the LNS community. Also other experiments, like CLAS12 recently, have bought hardware which is seamlessly included in the center. The maintenance of the resources is taken care of at Bates. These resources can be accessed through the subMIT computing infrastructure, where jobs are prepared and submitted for execution.

The majority of the computing is simply large boxes with order 20 slots with 2 GB memory per slot and a gigbit ethernet connection, but we have recently added a number of GPUs ideal for machine learning applications.

The workshop presents a number of in depth examples of more experienced users and includes detailed explanation and discussion of applications of new or simply interested users. If you have a specific computing intense task you want to resolve even on the time scale of the workshop or if you are interested to purchase hardware and include it into the existing system, please send an email to <paus@mit.edu>.
