Mapping New Physics onto EFTs: Functional Methods and Automation 1h

Despite numerous theoretical and experimental hints suggesting the presence of new physics, the absence of direct evidence points to the existence of a mass gap. Effective Field Theories (EFTs) offer the optimal framework for describing the potential effects of such physics at accessible energies. However, the vast landscape of ultraviolet (UV) models and the complexity of UV-to-EFT matching computations often obscure the connection between EFT analyses and their interpretation in terms of specific UV completions. Recent advancements in the path-integral formulation of EFT matching and running offer promising strategies to address these challenges. In this colloquium, I will review functional matching techniques and discuss recent progress towards their automation.
