Current PLC Dump Control inputs
- Rad monitors (disabled, now connected directly to the ACCESS system)
- T10 cooling
- K12 TAX cooling
- Vacuum valves
- P0 magnets (one interlock for the regulation error connecting in series all BA80/81/82 PCs for the P42/K12 beam lines). The regulation interlock is evaluated before extraction: it will interlock the extraction if the PC doesn't reach the expected current on the current cycle, or if a regulation error was detected during the previous cycle.
If one interlock is raised, then the PLC Dump Control acts on the P4 and P6 XTAX.
Plan for PLC Dump Control and P0 Survey post-LS3
These systems will both be dismantled, and their functionality replaced by the BIS.
The P6 XTAX will be dismantled and the P4 XTAX will be fixed. Therefore no actuation is required post-LS3 for these devices. Nevertheless, the BIS will actuate the P4 stoppers and the M2 XTAX.
BIS for operation post-LS3, before 2031
P42 Dump is in-beam, the interlocks between the P4 stoppers and the P42 Dump are connected to the BIS in BA80, which acts on the P4 stoppers position. If an interlock is raised downstream the P4 stoppers, then the BIS requests a beam dump in the SPS and at the same time requests the P4 stoppers to be moved in-beam. In this case the beam will be dumped in the SPS faster than the P4 stoppers will move into the beam.
BIS for operation post-2031
Power converters
As a temporary solution for the PCs in B81 and BA82 while waiting for NACONS Phase 2, it is proposed to re-use the current P0survey interlock for the PCs in BA81 and BA82 and connect this interlock to the BIS, either in BA80, or BA82.
These could also potentially be interlocked with the SIS.
Limitation: Such a PC interlock would not dump the beam if something occurs during the spill, it would only have the ability to interlock the next spill. In this case, we rely on the BLMs to catch losses and raise an interlock. Nevertheless, this assumption depends on which PC fails. If the failure occurs close to the target (last two quads for example), then the beam might not be diluted enough and damage the target. Action Matt: study if more PCs would have to be consolidated with latest FGC3 controls for the protection of the target.
Side note: The PCs in BA81 and BA82 will be connected to timing, and will only receive events related to BDF/SHIP operation (start of cycle, event before extraction, end of cycle).
Vacuum
The vacuum valves in these beamlines are manual, they are not remotely controlled. Their position is checked during the vacuum patrol at the end of the YETS.
Action Matt: Check with Miguel what are the interlocking requirements for these valves.
Other interlocks
Other interlocks include:
- BLMs in P42
- ECN3 interlocks (WIC, dilution system, target, BLMs, experiment...)
- ACCESS system: in order to dump the beam in the SPS ring, rather than in TT20, the ACCESS system will provide an interlock to the BIS. The radiation monitors in TCC8 and ECN3 (and TDC85?) will be interlocked.
