AWAKE Run 2bc Spectrometer
Spectrometer Meeting – 05/02/2025
Present: M. Turner, N. Z. van Gils, M. Bergamaschi, C. Pakuza, E. Gschwendtner, J. Farmer, M. Wing, F. Pannell, D. Cooke
Follow-up and Discussion:
Emittance – Effect of the Plasma Exit Ramp on the Measurement:
- D.C. will begin Run 2b data analysis. To do: Present initial conclusions before the April run.
- J.F. requires input on measured beam parameters for Run 2b simulations.
- Suggestion: Prioritize Run 2c simulations.
- To do: Show first results.
Magnets for Run 2c Spectrometer
- Meeting with G. Le Godec and P. Schwarz held on 05/02/2025.
- No possibility of obtaining an additional converter similar to the current ones due to size and infrastructure constraints.
- Triplet solution may be feasible if:
- Power converters from CTF3 are reused. Zero-current operation will not be possible.
- Compatible magnets are selected.
- Expected magnet characteristics: ~3m length, ~8cm aperture, heavy. To do: M.T. to report at CSCP meetings and follow up.
Magnet Positioning for Run 2c
- To maximize measurement accuracy, the triplet should be installed as close as possible to the plasma exit.
- Run 2d cabling should be prepared in advance.
- To do: Decide at the TB and M.T. to communicate this at the CSCP meeting.
Vacuum Window
- D.C.’s initial results indicate that the current window size can remain unchanged, however the chamber itself will be larger.
- To do: M.T. to follow up with N. Chritin. Decision to be made at the TB.
Presentation:
Run 2b Energy Gain Analysis Method (F. Pannell)
- Until now energy was quoted based on the charge peak.
- New approach: Also analyzing the energy of the 90th percentile, derived from the background-subtracted cumulative sum.
- Initial findings: The observed trends remain unchanged regardless of the method used.
- To do: Complete analysis on all datasets.
