FRAS safety relay boxes to be implemented for Sambuca

Europe/Zurich
Participants: V. Barbarroux, M. Donze, M. Di Castro, S. Fargier, B. Fernandez Adiego, R. Fernandez Bautista, J. Lendaro, E. Soria. M. Sosin (redactor)

The proposition of relay box solution, splitting power-cut of motor drivers per independent blocks was presented (slide 2, 3):
  • 4 independent blocks per IP side: Q1-D1, TAXN-CC2, TCLMB-Q4, TCLMB-Q5
  • Each block will consist of 3 relays from each protection layer (FSI, WPS, Sambuca), disabling the power per block + main relay driven by CCC key
  • The bay-pass keys need to be implemented for FRAS EXPERT maintenance/repair actions, where motors will need to be powered with enabled interlocks of protection layers. The bypass keys will be accessible in the racks.
  • For the IT String, there is only 1 independent block: Q1-D1, hence simplified relay-box config is required (slide 4, 5).

Discussion and actions:
  • Mario commented, that bypass keys have to provide feedback signals to control system, to warn FRAS operators about its status. The feedback signal lines of bypass keys have to be foreseen from relay-box to Sambuca Digital Inputs.
  • Safety of the bypass keys to be checked (Borja, Mateusz)
  • The parameters of relay lines coming from protection layers shall be defined. MRO Team will provide such an information before end of January 2024. Also the proposal of relay-box for IT String is urgent and
  • Mario proposed replacing of Sambuca protection layer dedicated relay, by Sambuca-internal motor driver enabling/disabling. Borja prefers dedicated relay, nevertheless as this enable/disable function is withing Sambuca protection layer , it seems to be acceptable. MRO Team will analyse it internally and propose best solution - to be discussed later on and endorsed if OK regarding to safety requirements.
  • MRO Team will analyse the layout of the relay-boxes w.r.t. motor drivers locations in the FRAS racks and will propose final hardware configuration. Relay-box(es) for IP1 and IP5 the Q1-D1 racks will be separated from TAXN-CC2, TCLMB-Q4, TCLMB-Q5 Sambuca racks. The racks vs. motors connections are available in DIC files, which could be provided by Vincent in case of need.
  • For WPS protection layer relays - there is no need to go through DIOT chassis, as this solution is more complex and force pulling supplementary cables to Sambuca racks. Simpler solution of relays driven by FEC is proposed.
  • The summary of today discussion and initial conclusions will be presented during 25th January CEM-GM-ICS FRAS meeting, to gather comments form FRAS Collaboiration.
  • Borja will organize a meeting with J. Uythoven, to crosschect the parameters of CCC Key "safe-wire" line.

AOB:
  • Enrica mentioned that discussion on Test Bench for motorized adapters assembly was launched in contact with Michel. The timeline and project requirements will be presented by MRO during 25th January CEM-GM-ICS FRAS meeting.
  • Mateusz recalled need of feedback regarding possibility to use old P2/P8 motor cables for RAC3 motors. Enrica will crosscheck status of this and will come back with feedback ASAP.
