Description

Dr. Jan Urbahn got his PhD in physics from the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1998 while working at CERN SPS in Geneva at the WA98 Experiment and working as a Guide and speaker in the public relations department. For this thesis, he worked on detector development and data analysis to understand lead ion collisions bombarding on fixed lead target at 158 GeV/nucleon.

Soon after completing his PhD degree, Jan joined BMW Munich as a Crash Simulation Enginner. He spent 21 years at BMW in Germany and the USA, where he was a Designated Agent in the United States and led Safety Engineering and ITS Intelligent Transportation Systems. He built two car-sharing companies for BMW, DriveNow, and ReachNow as Operations Lead, pioneering electric car sharing with 150 BMW ActiveE. He is currently working as a Senior Manager for Product Safety and Compliance for Canoo Technologies in Texas where he helps develop a new electric vehicle platform. He has been a member of the CERN Alumni Advisory Board since Nov 2019.

In the presentation, Dr. Jan Urbahn will talk about lessons learned from 25 years in industry: Tips, tricks & insights!
