Path to CP Violation Discovery at DUNE

CP violation in neutrinos may be related to the fundamental question of how the matter-dominated universe came to be. The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment with primary physics goals of determining the neutrino mass hierarchy and measuring the phase delta_CP with sufficient sensitivity to discover CP violation in neutrino oscillation. CP violation sensitivity in DUNE requires careful understanding of systematic uncertainty, with contributions expected from uncertainties in the neutrino flux, neutrino interactions, and detector effects. I will describe the DUNE experiment and a near-term program of prototypes and short-baseline experiments, with a focus on strategy for controlling systematic uncertainty in the long-baseline oscillation measurements.
