Description

Abstract:

Probing the Higgs boson coupling to the muon is one of the last experimentally accessible frontiers in the direct measurement of Higgs boson couplings at the LHC. This Collider Cross Talk will highlight the latest results on the Higgs boson decay to muons with LHC Run-2 data by the ATLAS and CMS experiments, including the first evidence for this decay. We will discuss the experimental challenges for this measurement at the LHC, and compare the analysis methods used by ATLAS and CMS for these results.

Hongtao - Short bio:

Hongtao Yang is a Chamberlain Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab working on the ATLAS experiment. He received his PhD degree from University of Wisconsin. Hongtao contributed to the Higgs boson discovery in the H->gammagamma channel. Since then he has been active in measurements of Higgs boson properties in H->gammagamma, Higgs combination, and most recently in H->mumu channel. Hongtao's main contributions to ATLAS H->mumu analysis include background modelling, signal modelling, and statistical analysis.

Stephane - Short bio:

Stephane is a postdoctoral research scientist at UC San Diego. He joined the CMS Collaboration in 2011 while at the University of Wisconsin Madison, and later obtained his PhD at Princeton. His research has focused on measurements of the Yukawa interactions. Stephane contributed to the first evidence for the Higgs boson decay to tau leptons, and was a primary author in the observation of the Higgs boson decay to bottom quarks. Stephane is now convener of the Higgs Rare and Exotic Decays group in CMS. He served as a primary author of the CMS results highlighted in this talk.
