NExT Seminar Meeting

This half-day meeting of the NExT Institute will gather experienced and early career researchers to discuss recent progress and developments in particle physics.

The meeting will be held on Zoom, and participation is free of charge. Participants are kindly asked to register to help the organisation of the event.

Talks will run from 13:30 - 17:00.

The NExT Institute is a regional alliance in the South-East of England (SEPnet) to promote Particle Physics at the interface between theory and experiment.

        Observing Supernova Neutrinos with Hyper-Kamiokande and SNEWS 2.0

        Hyper-Kamiokande is a next generation neutrino and nucleon decay experiment that is expected to start taking data in 2027. In this talk, I will introduce the experiment and discuss its capability to detect neutrinos from the next galactic supernova and how well this lets us identify the most realistic computer model of the supernova explosion. Finally, I will discuss upgrades to the SuperNova Early Warning System (SNEWS)—a network of neutrino detectors that will give astronomers advance notice when the next galactic supernova occurs.
